Woodcuts

The paintings are all acrylic on canvas. The central image is the human form. Multiple layers of paint are used by both brush and float to produce an appearance of transparency in which levels of unreal forms express the emotional content.

The mood, if not the technique, derives from German Expressionism.

A woodcut print is made once a year using the same theme – Mother and Child encircled by the Greek letter omega, a womb-like form. The wood used is oak instead of the more traditional (and softer) box or fruit woods because of the quality of its grain.
